Our home sleep test uses sensors recommended by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, and all data is reviewed by a board certified sleep physician to ensure accuracy.

Yes, we can send copies of your test results to all physicians involved in your care, ensuring a cohesive approach to your treatment.

What types of data does the home sleep test collect?

The home sleep test collects data on body position, snoring, respiratory effort, oxygen saturation, and heart rate. This comprehensive data provides a reliable assessment regarding the presence or absence of obstructive sleep apnea.

Can I use the home sleep test if I have other medical conditions?

Yes, our home sleep test can generally be used by individuals with other medical conditions. However, there are certain medical conditions such as chronic congestive heart failure, persistent atrial fibrillation, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), chronic hypoxic respiratory failure, recent stroke (within 6 months) and long term opioid use where home sleep testing is not recommended. Patients with these medical conditions require an overnight polysomnogram (PSG). We recommend consulting with your physician if you have concerns.

Is the home sleep test difficult to use?

No, the home sleep test is designed to be user-friendly. We provide detailed instructions, and our support team is available to assist you if needed.

How do I return the sleep test device?

After the sleep test data is collected wirelessly and deemed to be sufficient, you can simply dispose of the device.

What happens if my test results indicate sleep apnea?

If your test results indicate sleep apnea, our clinicians will provide personalized treatment recommendations.

How soon will I receive my results?

You will receive your results in 72 hours after test completion. Expedited studies will be completed in 24 hours. Remove the part where it says the study will be read and interpreted by a physician

How do I request a home sleep test?

To request a home sleep test, simply fill out our online request form.

What is the cost of a take-home sleep test?

Our comprehensive take-home sleep test costs $300. This includes the testing kit, clinician review, diagnosis, and personalized treatment recommendations. The cost is eligible for HSA/FSA reimbursement, providing a flexible payment option for our patients. For expedited reads with a 24 hour turnaround after test completion, the cost is $500.

Does Complete Sleep sell CPAP devices?

No, Complete Sleep does not sell CPAP devices. However, we can refer patients to durable medical equipment companies that sell CPAP devices.

Will my private insurance cover the cost?

Many private insurance plans do cover the cost of home sleep tests. We recommend checking with your insurance provider to determine your coverage options. We can provide any necessary documentation to assist with your claim.

Is this test covered by OHIP?

Currently, our home sleep test is not covered by OHIP. However, it is a qualified medical expense, so you may be able to claim it on your taxes or get reimbursed through other health spending accounts.

Do I need a referral form from my family physician?

No, you do not need a referral from your family physician to request a home sleep test with Complete Sleep. Simply fill out our online request form to get started.

Home Sleep Test FAQ

A home sleep test is a  We use the Zoll Itamar WatchPAT at Complete Sleep.

Yes, the WatchPAT home sleep test is approved by Health Canada and the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) for diagnosis of sleep apnea in patients over the age of 12.

The accuracy. However, technical difficulties can occur on the night of testing which may result in the test being challenging to interpret thereby affecting the validity of the test result. In these instances, a repeat study will be performed at no cost to the patient.

The home sleep study is performed for one night. At minimum, 4 hours of sleep is required to obtain good data. The more sleep, the better.

  1. The home sleep study measures apneic events (both obstructive and central),  total sleep time, snoring, respiratory rate, oxygen saturation, heart rate, duration of time spent in sleep stages and one’s body’s position. Combined together, these metrics determine the severity of obstructive or central sleep apnea, if present.
  1. Unfortunately, the home sleep study is not covered by the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP). Private insurances do cover home sleep tests.

The home sleep study is finalized within 72 hours after completion. After test completion, your results will be delivered to you in a PDF format via a secure platform. If a virtual consultation was performed prior to the test, you will be scheduled to discuss the results with the physician and treatment options.

  1. Unfortunately, the home sleep study is not for everyone. It is not indicated for patients with congestive heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), hypoventilation syndromes, atrial fibrillation/flutter, pulmonary hypertension, long term opioid use, major neurocognitive disorder,  a recent history of stroke (within 2 years) and pacemaker implants. Patient’s with these conditions require in-lab testing. 
  1. No, you do not need to return the sleep study to us. After test completion, the data will be transmitted wirelessly to the physician’s portal. You will be informed of when to dispose of the testing kit after the data has been uploaded to the physician portal. 

You can dispose of the WatchPAT device through the WatchPAT One Green Program. Alternatively, you can dispose of the device at your local recycling facility.
